The Process
The process of Starlight Stained Glass fitting your stained glass into bespoke frames can be highly beneficial.
Fitting stained glass into bespoke frames gives the effect that the stained glass is original and over 100 years old when in reality the panels are brand new. The best part of this process is that you gain all the benefits of new high efficiency insulated glass and the beauty that only custom-designed stained glass can offer.
Stained glass can be sandwiched between the insulated glass, the size of the stained glass panel would have to be very precise. If the stained glass was too small it would leave a gap between the leaded glass edge and the insulated seal would look tacky. Alternatively, if the glass panel was too big it would cause immense problems.
On the contrary, stained glass windows can also be installed on top of the existing insulated glass on the inside of a property. This method is beneficial as the full beauty of the stained glass panel is seen by you and is not blocked by the glare from another piece of clear glass. You are also able to take the stained glass panel with you if you ever decide to move; no one would know the window has stained glass in or on it.
The stained glass we install will add beauty and value to your home as well as giving your home a unique and creative feel.
How Are They Installed?
Before we install the glass we ensure that both inside and outside of the glass is perfectly clean and dry. We then use two small brad nails on each edge of the stained glass panel to pinch it against the window. The small brad nails are driven at a low angle into the edges of the sash no more than one-eighth inch to prevent them from hitting the window glass. The shaft of the nail touches the edge of the leaded glass and the window sash is consistent round the edges. If your window is pained we will use a paintable acrylic caulk to fill in the gap between the stained glass and window sash; alternatively, if the window is stained we are able to use clear silicone caulk.
